KAI-ching Trolley Sender
A free browser extension for desktop Chrome and Microsoft Edge that sends the trolley you built on
KAI-ching to your Woolworths, Pak'nSave or New World online trolley, so you don't have to search for every item
again. Send the whole trolley to one supermarket, or press Send the split to send each supermarket its
cheapest part of a split shop in one go. If you turn it on, it can also show what a split shop saved you once you
order (see Savings tracking).
Unofficial: KAI-ching isn't affiliated with Woolworths NZ or Foodstuffs (Pak'nSave, New World),
and they don't endorse this extension. It doesn't work on phones.
Using Microsoft Edge? Install it from the Chrome Web Store: Edge asks you to Allow extensions
from other stores once, then installs it like any other add-on.
How it works
- Build your trolley on kaiching.co.nz and open My Trolley.
- Under Send to a supermarket's online trolley, pick the supermarket to send your whole
trolley to. If your shop is cheaper split across supermarkets, press Send the split
instead: each supermarket gets only its cheapest part. (You can also send just one supermarket's part.)
To buy an item at a different supermarket, click its price there in My Trolley first: the split follows your choice.
- The supermarket's site opens in a new tab (for a split, one tab per supermarket), and the extension asks
before it adds anything. Press Start adding (or Cancel) in each tab. If you're not logged
in, log in and press Continue. On Pak'nSave and New World, check that the store shown at the top of their
page is the one you shop at: your trolley there belongs to that store.
- It adds the items one by one (about a second each). Items already in your trolley get the extra quantity
added. Loose fruit and veg compared per kg are added by weight. When it's done the page refreshes and shows
what was added and anything it couldn't add, with links. For a split, it also offers to take you to the
next supermarket's tab.
- You check your trolley and check out on the supermarket's site as usual. Prices there can differ from
KAI-ching's (today's specials, loyalty prices, your store or delivery area).
What it never does
- It never sees or stores your password. It works inside the session you're already logged in to on the
supermarket's site. (Pak'nSave and New World's own pages fetch a short-lived session token to talk to their
trolley; the extension does the same, keeps it only in that tab's memory, checks it only to see whether
you're logged in, and sends it nowhere except that supermarket's own site.)
- It never checks out, books a delivery slot or changes your store or address.
- It never adds anything until you press "Start adding" on the supermarket's page, and you can stop or cancel
at any time. It stops if the supermarket's site asks it to slow down, checks whether you're human, or stops
responding.
- It doesn't add alcohol, tobacco or other age-restricted products; add those yourself if you want them.
- With savings tracking on, it only reads your order: it never changes anything on the supermarket's site
while it's watching.
Savings tracking (optional)
Off unless you turn it on. If you do, the extension can tell you how much a split shop saved you once you
order, and KAI-ching adds it to your Savings page.
- Turning it on. After a send with a saving (a split, or one supermarket's part of one), the
summary on the supermarket's tab asks "Track your savings? (optional)", with No thanks and Turn on. It asks
at most twice, at least two weeks apart. You can also turn it on or off any time in the extension's menu (its
icon in the browser toolbar). KAI-ching's website can't turn it on. Turn it on within 24 hours of a send it
asked about (before you close that tab or the browser) and that send is included; after that, tracking
starts with your next send.
- What it reads, and when. Only while it's on, and only for 7 days after you send items from
KAI-ching, it watches for the order-confirmation page on woolworths.co.nz, paknsave.co.nz or newworld.co.nz
in this browser. When you place an order there and its confirmation page appears straight after checkout,
it reads that one order's product list (product codes, quantities, whether the order went through and when it was placed) from
the supermarket's site, on your computer. A confirmation page you open later, from your order history or a
link, isn't read or counted. (To notice these pages, the extension's script on those three sites checks the
address of the page you're on, whether or not tracking is on; that check reads nothing else from the
page and sends nothing off your computer.) On Pak'nSave and New World it also notices when you start editing
an order, so it can re-read the order when you save the change. On Woolworths it asks only for the product list, the order's status and when it was placed; on
Pak'nSave and New World the supermarket's reply may also include details such as your delivery address and
payment details, which the extension ignores and never stores or sends.
- What the figure means. For each item it sent that you ordered: what it would have cost at
the cheapest single store for your whole trolley, minus what it cost where you sent it, at KAI-ching's prices
when you sent it. If you chose to buy an item somewhere dearer than that store, that item counts nothing and the
other items' figures are scaled down, so together they never add up to more than the saving My Trolley
showed. An item you took out counts nothing, and a smaller quantity counts in proportion. Sending
your whole trolley to one supermarket has no split saving, so it isn't counted, and if no single store had
everything in your trolley there's nothing to compare with. It's an estimate: it doesn't reflect prices at
checkout that differ from KAI-ching's, substitutions, items out of stock or cancellations, and it's before
any extra delivery, pick-up or service fees (each part of a split is its own order, usually with its own
fee).
- What it can't see. Orders placed in a supermarket's app, on another device or browser, or
more than 7 days after the send; an order whose confirmation page you open later (from your order history,
say) rather than straight after checkout; a Pak'nSave or New World order edit it didn't see you start; and
anything while tracking is off.
- What stays on your computer. While tracking is on, the extension keeps in your browser:
the product codes, quantities and estimated savings of the items it sent, for up to 7 days; a scrambled
reference to each order it has counted, with that order's saving figures and, for each product it sent, a
scrambled product code with the quantity already counted, for 30 days, so the same order isn't counted twice,
even if you change it; the random value used for those scrambles; and any saving waiting for KAI-ching to pick
up, for up to 30 days. While you're editing
a Pak'nSave or New World order, it keeps that order number in the browser's temporary memory for up to 24
hours (cleared when you close the browser). If you haven't decided about tracking yet, it keeps each send's
product codes, quantities and estimated savings (never an order number) in the browser's temporary memory
for up to 24 hours (cleared sooner if you close that tab or the browser), so that turning tracking on can
include that send. It never keeps your name, address, payment details, the prices you paid or your
town.
- What KAI-ching receives. The extension never sends a saving to us itself. The next time
you open KAI-ching, the page asks the extension for any saving it found, adds it to your savings
history (the Savings page) and sends our server a report of only: the supermarket; how many of the
items it sent had a saving,
and how many of those you bought; the estimated saving; whether it was a split shop; the extension's version
number; and a random code for that order (made up by the extension, not your order number), with a revision
number if the order is changed later. Our database adds the date (the day only, no time). The report contains nothing
that identifies you: never your name, address, payment details, order number, products or prices. If you're
signed in to KAI-ching, the saving is also added to your savings history in your account, which is
stored with
your account as before. The order's random code is never synced to your account (the page keeps it only on
that device, so the same order is never added to your savings twice), and we don't store reports with
accounts.
- Who handles it, and for how long. Our web host (Railway) runs the server that receives it
and our database provider (Supabase) stores it. Like any website, our web host sees your IP address when the
page sends the report; our server uses it only in memory, to limit how many reports can come from one
address, and doesn't store it with the saving. Reports are deleted automatically 12 months after the day we
receive them.
- Why. So you can see your own savings, and so we can see, in total, whether the extension
is worth keeping. Never sold, never used for advertising and never given to supermarkets or anyone else.
- Turning it off. Saying no costs you nothing: sending works just the same. Turn it off any
time in the extension's menu (or with Turn off on the supermarket's tab), and it deletes what it was keeping
for tracking straight away. While it's on, the menu shows how many sends it's watching and until when, and
"Forget everything" deletes that data but keeps your choice. Removing the extension deletes all of it.
Savings already added to your savings history stay there, as part of your own savings record (on your
device, and in
your account if you're signed in, where deleting your synced data or your account deletes them too). The
reports our server receives hold nothing that identifies you and aren't stored with your account, and we
don't try to match them to anyone.
Privacy
- When you click Send, the extension takes the products and quantities from your KAI-ching trolley and sends
them only to the supermarket you chose (woolworths.co.nz, paknsave.co.nz or newworld.co.nz), to add them to
your own trolley there. With Send the split, each supermarket gets only its own part.
- The extension itself sends nothing to KAI-ching's servers. Only if you turn on savings tracking does it
hand any saving it found to the KAI-ching page in your browser, and the page sends us a short saving report
for that order, with nothing in it that identifies you (exactly what's in it: Savings
tracking). Before and during each send, when you turn savings tracking on, and, with it on, when you open
KAI-ching, the extension downloads a small on/off file from kaiching.co.nz (so we can pause it if needed);
like any web request, that shows your IP address to our host, and nothing else.
- It keeps the list it's sending only in your browser's temporary memory. It's removed when the send finishes
or is cancelled, or when you close that tab or the browser, and an unfinished send expires 30 minutes after its
last step. Until you close the browser it also keeps the product codes and quantities of the last trolley it
added, only to warn you if you send the same trolley again within 15 minutes. It also remembers whether
you've turned savings tracking on or off (or said No thanks) and how many times it has asked, and only while
tracking is on, it keeps what tracking needs in your browser's storage for up to 7 or 30 days (see
Savings tracking).
- When a send starts, the KAI-ching page adds one to a count of sends to that supermarket (and, for Send the
split, notes how many supermarkets it went to): numbers only, nothing about you or your items, to decide
whether the extension is worth keeping. See our privacy policy.
- Permissions it asks for: access to kaiching.co.nz (to receive your trolley, and to hand the page any
saving it found), woolworths.co.nz, paknsave.co.nz and newworld.co.nz (to add it there, and, only with
savings tracking on, to notice your order-confirmation page and read that order), and storage (to resume
after you log in, to warn you about sending the same trolley twice, and for savings tracking). Nothing
else.
- The use of information received by the KAI-ching Trolley Sender extension adheres to the Chrome Web Store User
Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Your trolley is used only to add those products to your own
trolley at the supermarket you chose, and, with savings tracking on, your order's product list is used only to
work out your saving. Neither is ever sold, used for advertising or used for any other purpose.
For supermarkets
The extension only acts when a shopper clicks Send, adds items to that shopper's own trolley at about one
item a second, and never automates checkout or logins. If a shopper turns on savings tracking, it also reads
that shopper's own order after they place or edit it, and changes nothing. If you'd like us to pause or change
it, email hello@kaiching.co.nz and we'll pause sending to your site within
48 hours. Pausing stops new sends and new savings watches at once; a watch already running ends when that
shopper next opens KAI-ching, or after 7 days at most. We'd also welcome a conversation about doing this
officially.
Questions? Email hello@kaiching.co.nz.
Woolworths, Pak'nSave and New World are trade marks of their owners, used here only to say which sites the
extension works with.
